Air conditioning is one of the most important and also costly parts of any business as they are one of the major consumers of electricity in any business but without any commercial air conditioning system it is not possible to run a successful business. The need of this system can be seen in any type of business whether it is a factory or an office or storage business.
Working of Commercial Air Conditioning:
Majority of the small commercial air conditioning units circulate a compressed gas which is also known as the refrigerant, in a closed split system which cools it down and the air inside the unit is also condensed. The outside air is the medium used by most units when the refrigerant is re-cooled and condensed. The term split refers to the fact that the components are divided into the inside and the outside portion they are not located in the same place.
The role of refrigerant is to cool and dehumidify the air inside the unit. In a system which is forced air system the air is circulated through the ducts with the help of a blower. The air ducts either run below the ceiling and inside the room. The refrigerant is cooled and condensed with help of a fan which pulls air across the external parts of the system.
Main parts and functions of split air conditioning system:
Following are major parts of the commercial air conditioning system along with their functions
Compressor:
The compressor is considered the heart of the system and it circulated the refrigerant in a closed loop between the condenser and the evaporator coils. There is more than one variety of compressors available. A reciprocating condenser causes a lot of problems according to a consumers report. The scroll-type compressor is more expensive but they have higher efficiency level and they do not produce a lot of noise as well.
Condenser coil:
The condenser coil is a network of tubes with refrigerant and its role is to remove the heat from the heated gas refrigerant and convert refrigerant back to the liquid form. The excess heat escapes into the outside air.
Fan:
The fan is placed outside and its function is to pull the air through the condenser coils for the heat dispersal.
Evaporator coil:
This coil is placed inside and it is also a network of tubes filled with refrigerant and its function is to remove heat and moisture from the air while the refrigerant changes its form liquid to gas again.
Air handling unit:
The air handling unit is a blower and associated ration of the central air conditioning system. It moves the air through the air ducts.
Air filters:
The function of air filters is to catch or trap the dust, pollen or any other airborne particles during the movement of air through the air conditioning system. These air filters are useful for both reliable air conditioning operation and health.
Drainage system along with a Pan:
A substantial amount of water is produced by the air conditioner during the process of cooling and there is a primary system of pipes which are often made up of PVC whose function is to carry this by-product outside of the building. There is a regular need of flushing the pipes so that any growth of algae and fungi can be prevented because they are going to affect the efficiency of the unit. The maintenance can be done during the annual tune up of the unit. It is important to have an emergency pan in case some problem occurs with the primary drainage system. This pan often comes with an automatic cut-off switch which can turn off the air conditioning system.
Air conditioning equipped with heat pumps:
This is a combination of central air conditioning and the heating system and it can act both as an air conditioner and a heater. The maintenance of the commercial air conditioning is the key to its long life and efficient working.
