The air conditioning is an essential part of a home or business. The air conditioning system is also high consumers of electricity. If you want to make the system affordable, it is important to make the system energy efficient. The efficiency of the system is necessary for the functionality of the business. There are different designs of air conditioning systems available. But these systems have two critical functions:
- Controlling the humidity and temperature
- Controlling the indoor quality of the room air
Here, in this article, I’ve compiled some useful tips on daily maintenance of the portable air conditioning unit to make them more energy efficient.
Clean The Heating & Cooling Coils Regularly
The dirt and the dust are excellent insulator’s. If they manage to accumulate on the coils, then they can prevent the coils from efficiently exchanging heat. It causes the system to work longer to achieve the desired temperature. The coils have to be kept clean with the changing of the seasons.
Moreover, in winters, moisture is accumulated on the cooling coils with the help of drain pans, and it is drained out of the air-handler. The drain pipes can be blocked if the dirt is accumulated. It results in accumulation of dust, which causes the moisture in the discharge side of the coil.
The unhealthy birth of microorganisms can be decreased if the condensate drains are kept clean. Inspect the deterioration of the coils and replace it if necessary. If the coils are rusting, then it can be difficult to keep them clean. The rusting coils should be replaced if you want to optimize the energy efficiency of the commercial air conditioning system. If the steel coils loose the protective galvanized coating, then it promotes the growth of unhealthy mold or the slime within the handling units.
Keep A Check On Fans & Blowers
It is important to set up a seasonal or a periodic plan for the maintenance of the system. The maintenance plan should include the cleaning of all of the fans and the blowers. To make things easier the location and the several types of the fans can be documented. The lavatory and the exhaust fans should be included as well. If they are overlooked, they can create unhealthy air.
The blower wheel or the fan blades should be cleaned if you wish to increase the efficiency of the system. The centrifugal blower wheels can collect a lot of dirt on the blade.
Documenting a service plan for any kitchen or food service is important. The fans used in the cooking hoods are essential for keeping them clean and free of grease. The fans need to be maintained properly.
Keeping Air Filters Clean
The clean filters are necessary for the efficiency of the whole system. If the filters are not clean, then the system will have to work harder and consume more energy in achieving and maintaining the desired temperature.
The filters should be cleaned or replaced when required. The quality of the indoor air can be made better if the filters are changed at the proper frequency.
The optimal frequency can be determined based upon the regular inspection of the filter material. Not all of the filters need to be changed at the same rate. The change in the frequency of the filter changes depends on several factors such as the dusty areas near the air intake grilles or the units that are operating during the high pollen count, etc.

Minimizing The Air Conditioning System Costs
Ensure that the condensers are clean. Try to develop an automated control scheme that makes it easy to operate the system and keep it efficient. If you are using a rooftop air conditioning, then ensure that all of the access covers are screwed properly. The filters in the less accessible areas should be changed according to the filter maintenance program.
